Who is Dr Ronan McSorley?

“I grew up in the north of Ireland and have spent many years working as a clinical psychologist in London, both in the NHS and in private practice.

I am a cisgendered white man and use he/him pronouns. My work is guided by the principles of truth, justice and liberation. I advocate for resistance against all forms of oppression, including racism, sexism and classism.

I am an expert in the psychology of trauma and a critic of the traditional medical model approach to mental health treatment. I adopt a non-diagnostic and non-pharmacological method in my work. This means I won’t diagnose you, prescribe drugs, or use manualized therapy protocols. Instead, I focus on helping you navigate the specific circumstances and contexts that cause you distress so that you can find your unique path to healing”.

Who does Dr Ronan McSorley work with?

“I work with clients worldwide via Zoom and welcome people of all genders, sexual orientations, races, cultures, ethnicities, nationalities, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The effects of trauma can manifest in various ways. I assist individuals who are experiencing profound sadness, deep despair, emotional turbulence, overwhelming fear, obsessive thinking, compulsive behaviors and social alienation.

Many of the people who come to see me are navigating major life transitions, feeling deep grief about what is happening in the world, seeking to understand and integrate their past experiences or searching for deeper meaning and purpose in their lives. Sometimes people seek my help for reasons that are difficult to articulate but involve deep existential themes they need to explore.

I have experience helping those who have been harmed as a result of psychiatric treatment or have not found traditional therapeutic approaches helpful.”

How does Dr Ronan McSorley work?

“I have integrated my professional, academic and personal experiences into a distinctive method for supporting individuals seeking to heal from trauma. Together, we will uncover the meaning and significance of your psychological distress. This process involves delving into the roots of your childhood and exploring the beliefs, assumptions and adaptations developed as survival mechanisms. You will become conscious of and learn to break free from self-limiting patterns, paving the way for healing and growth.

My approach is informed by the latest psychological research on the effects of trauma on the body. You will learn how to be with difficult physical sensations, find safety within your nervous system and cultivate a sense of calm, presence and connection.

I believe it is also crucial to move ‘beyond psychology’ in order to address dimensions that transcend the traditional boundaries of therapy. This includes aspects to do with spiritual development, as well as reflecting on the political, economic and social factors that shape our daily realities."
